מאז האינתיפאדה השנייה הלכה והתפתחה בישראל מיליטריזציה חדשה, שמקורה בפרדוקס: ככל שישראל מתמודדת עם הגבלות בין-לאומיות רבות יותר על שימוש בכוח צבאי, וככל שצצות לו חלופות מדיניות וצומחת כאן חברת שוק המעמעמת את הילת שדה הקרב, כך מוסדות המדינה והכוחות התומכים בה מתאמצים עוד יותר לחזק את הלגיטימציה הציבורית להפעלת כוח ולהקרבה צבאית. התוצאה היא מיליטריזציה מסוג חדש.
